You may find it hard to believe, but on the 4 Phase Fat Loss Protocol, your results may be affected by any external application of fats, oils, lotions and creams that are applied to the skin – they act as if they had been eaten. You may see some slowing weight loss, stalls or even gains!
This means that it’s a good idea to consider what we put on our skin, particularly during Phase 2 of the protocol.
If you typically use creams and lotions everyday, this may feel like a bit of an adjustment, but it is worthwhile when you are achieving maximum results. Our bodies don’t do well when we eat foods laced with chemicals and the same goes for skincare.
So, to ensure the greatest success on the program, it may be time to set aside your usual skincare products and consider some protocol-friendly alternatives. We have found some beautiful, chemical- and oil-free products that may help to replicate – or even improve – your normal beauty routine. I absolutely love them and have continued using them beyond the protocol.
Some of my favourite, protocol-friendly skincare products include:
100% Jojoba Oil
Jojoba is unique because the oil is not composed of fat but of liquid wax. This means that it supports skin hydration and protection from the environment without containing any fatty oils that the body may absorb into the bloodstream. Jojoba is an ester (an organic compound that helps to protect the moisture component in the skin), which sits in the top layers of the skin and acts the same as the skin’s natural sebum, stabilising and protecting the skin. It is suitable for all skin types, whether dry, oily or sensitive and does not interfere with the protocol at all.
If you are looking for a balm to use on your lips, elbows, heels or any other dry area, try making your own balm using jojoba, beeswax and essential oils (see this recipe here for some inspiration).

We recommend using mineral face powder during Phase 2 – once again free from all oils. There are some beautiful organic, chemical-free mineral make up powders, eye shadows and blushes available online.
You can use any organic, chemical-free soap, body wash, shampoo, or conditioner as they are not on your skin long enough to be absorbed. But, it’s important to do your research – we are faced with countless toxins in the world we live in so this is the perfect time to start incorporating some of these non-toxic alternatives into your daily life…it is sure to have a positive impact.
The 4 Phase Fat Loss Protocol, is based upon scientific research by Dr Simeons and he was very adamant that massage is absolutely not recommend during the protocol. This is because your body is losing a large amount of weight and also redistributing tissues to where they should be. If you get a massage, you are disturbing the careful tissue reconstructions that are happening under your skin. Also, sometimes deep massage can produce scar tissue under the skin and fat cells can become trapped in the scar tissue, making it difficult for your body to eliminate them. Many massages will also involve non-compliant lotions/oils as well.
Bentonite clay is good at drawing out toxins and makes a beautiful home-made treatment during the protocol. Mix with a histamine-lowering kefir (such as those available at Kultured Wellness), or some apple cider vinegar, apply it to your skin and leave for 20 minutes. You could also add a spoonful to your bath with some apple cider vinegar.

I know this may seem a little off topic, but the ongoing toxic load from chemical-filled cleaning products can contribute to chronic disease, so switching to non-toxic alternatives is something that we need to consider when we are aiming for optimum health.
